When political correctness turns stupid
California’s Live Oak High School Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez sent a clear message Wednesday during the Cinco de Mayo celebration that American patriotism will not be tolerated. He ordered four students wearing tee shirts printed with the American flag to turn them inside out or go home so not to offend the sensitivities of the more than 100 students wearing the colors of Mexico, some of whom had painted the Mexican flag on their faces and arms. Thankfully, the students chose to go home rather than give in to the ridiculous demand.
The Morgan Hill School District administration denounced the action after the story went viral in the press but it remains to be seen if any action will be taken for the school’s violation of the First Amendment rights of the students sent home. We wish we could say that this is an isolated incident but it is not. Rodriguez’s behavior speaks of a growing problem in America where our traditional values are being destroyed by a Liberal education system bent on promoting an “America is evil” agenda.
We do not pretend to understand the idiocy of Rodriguez who thought it was fine that students show their enthusiasm for Mexico but any display of American patriotism must be punished. We do have a problem that people like him are responsible for educating the youth of our nation. If Rodriguez has a problem with America, we are sure that Mexico needs more teachers and he is welcome to pack his bags and preach his intolerance there.
Unlike the portrayal by the main street media, most Conservatives are not anti immigrant. We believe that immigration needs to be done properly and legally. The cost of illegal immigration to society is too great to ignore yet political leaders on the left see illegal immigrants as a potential political base choosing to ignore the problem to further their political ambitions. Under the veil of compassion, their agenda is anything but wholesome. To win short term gains, the leaders of the Liberal movement promote anti American sentiment destined to destroy the fabric our nation was built upon.
If we as voters choose to allow the same people to gain high office over and over again, we have nobody but ourselves to blame. If the problems being perpetuated by the current Administration and Congress are allowed to continue, the America that we knew will be gone forever. If you are angry about what is happening, it is time to get off the couch and do something about it. Each of us needs to get behind candidates who have the backbone to stand up to the tyranny of of our elected officials and work hard to replace them.
Turn off the TV and talk to everyone you meet about what is at stake in this election. Sign up to make phone calls for candidates who will put America first. If you wake up on November 5th to the reality that the same people have been reelected, will you be able to say that you did everything you could? If all you can say is that you voted for the other candidate and yelled at the TV for months, then the answer is a resounding NO!
It’s time to get to work.

Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriquez needs to be fired. This is the United States of America, not Mexico. If people want to come to the USA, they need to come in the right way, get a green card and apply for citizenship. Get a job, pay taxes, get insurance and LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH. That is how this great nation was founded. Those early Americans came from different countries and cultures,and spoke a variety of languages. English became the language and people learned it. I am tired of having to press one if I want to talk in English. I could write a book but not enough space. Wake up America!
I don’t want to change a thing.
This is so un-American, when you immigrate to this country to become a citizen your loyalty should be to this country, otherwise stay in your own country. We have one flag, Old Glory; we have the pledge of allegiance to that flag and the Star Spangled Banner in its honor. It is time that this country becomes one again under that flag. My brother died in Vietnam with the U.S. flag patch on his uniform (Marine) to help those people try to get from under communist rule. Did he die so that the flag of his country could be trampled on?
That vice-principal should be fired, sued, and stripped of his US citizenship if he hates the USA so much, if he is, in fact an American. Maybe he is an anchor baby whose parents came here illegally? If he tried that in another state, he might find his life in peril. If he loves Mexico, then PLEASE, go there asap.
Ass Principal Rodriguez………..Don’t know where you came from but PLEASE PLEASE leave the US and go to Mexico………
Hatred. It’s everywhere. And the haters rarely miss a chance to capitalize on any situation where they might twist, bend, manipulate and/or lie in order to spread their diseased way of viewing any situation as an affront to our American way of life….their way of poking the right buttons that they hope will make you stand on their side of the street to scream, jump up and down and shout with them. HATE! HATE! HATE! Jump on the bandwagon! And what the Haters don’t twist to inflame, the media often will. THINK FOR YOURSELF. Use the brain God gave you. Here are the facts: Southern California High School, Racial Tension, Gangs, Gang colors, school dress codes. Now, let’s work from there logically rather than emotionally. Think. A school full of volatile youth. It’s Cinco de Mayo and the school is celebrating. Four students come in wearing, not American flags, but t-shirts specifically intended to inflame, incite and make a political statement. They could have just as easily worn t-shirts on St. Patrick’s Day that said, “F*** the Irish & the potato boats they floated over on.” Or, on Martin Luther King Day, “He sleeps with the fishes so we celebrate.” The t-shirts were NOT worn as a “symbol of patriotism” or a “symbol of their pride” on that day. Without saying a word, they were screaming anger and hatred which I consider to be a shameful bastardization of what our flag really stands for. I do not see a Principal who is “punishing” the boys for proudly wearing the American flag. I see an authority figure enforcing school dress codes. Dress codes imposed by school boards or others. He didn’t make the rules. “Offensive, inflammatory, vulgar, inappropriate or obviously gang related clothing” is probably prohibited. NO! I am NOT saying the American flag is any of those things. However, the blatant and intentional message conveyed by their choice of clothing on that day was, indeed, offensive, inflammatory, inappropriate and potentially harmful. Had their actions provoked violence, our children could have been hurt. It is the Principal’s job to enforce the rules and to keep our children safe. In my opinion, that is precisely what he/she did here. Without question, the problem of illegal immigration is a legitimate issue and a great number of people are rabidly vocal about it. This is good. This is how America works. But when four high school students intentionally take that issue to school with them on Cinco de Mayo, that is wildly inappropriate and potentially dangerous to other students. There is nothing patriotic in their actions. I’m so sick of haters hiding behind the American flag. I’m so sick of seeing incidents like this intentionally distorted and misrepresented by haters and then used as a tool to spread their bile. The truth doesn’t work for them so they misrepresent to create the fear that they may then use as a tool. Ignorance may well be our greatest enemy. Arm yourselves, people. Learn how to think for yourselves. I hate Haters. And STOP using the American flag to do your dirty work. Signed, A white American citizen, proudly born and raised in the U.S. who is not afraid to deal with problems honestly and head-on instead of using lies, hatred and fear to sway others.
@TL Chalmar
While I agree with your general argument that inciting hateful rhetoric is always bad, I disagree that these four students actions fit this description. By wearing patriotic clothing during a celebration of a minor Mexican holiday speaks of the frustration many feel that our own sense of national pride has been conscripted by the Progressive movement making American pride less important than that of another country.
Long ago we stopped working with each other for the common good. Our political leaders understand that a divided electorate is more easy to control than a united one. When individuals stand up and say, “we are proud to be American”, the Liberal media too often portrays them as “hatemongers” and racist. If the agenda was to promote a harmonious society, the message would be that we are one nation, compatible with many different points of view.
I fully agree that ignorance is our worst enemy. We are a society where our information is delivered in 30 second sound bytes crafted with focus groups by advertising specialists and most people do not take the time to educate themselves on the issues. This is the real danger. Unless enough people wake up and look beyond the infomercials known here as newscasts, we are destined to fail as a society.
I can understand that the administrators feared that this incident could lead to violence. I would have felt much better had these same leaders pulled every student into the gym and held a forum on the importance of the students learning more about each others culture and working to find a balance where they can work toward common goals while accepting their differences. Instead, they were lazy and wanted the problem to just go away leaving the school administrators responsible for this becoming an issue.
