The real danger behind Obama’s plan to ban oil drilling

July 10th, 2010

Deepwater Horizon

Both the short and long term effects of President Obama’s plan to ban offshore drilling and exploration will further devastate the already fragile economy of America. In the Gulf States alone, the ban would affect over 50,000 workers at a cost of over $165 million in lost wages every week. The President’s Executive Order to freeze drilling has been overturned by two separate courts leading Obama to look at other means to stop production of one of our most important assets.

The President failed miserably in leading the government response to the accident on BP’s Deep Water Horizon rig. His inaction prevented local authorities from taking actions that could have minimized the damage being caused by the spill. When Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal asked for permission to build a barrier to prevent the spill from reaching sensitive wetlands, the Federal government stopped him stating that a full environmental impact study would have to be completed before the barrier could be considered.  The proper response would have been to issue an Executive Order suspending the normal bureaucratic process that can take years to complete and allow local officials to take the needed actions to protect their coastline in time to save sensitive ecosystems. Now it is too late.

The real threat comes from the fact that the President has a deeper agenda and is using the spill to further the weakening of American national security and increase our dependence on foreign oil. Members of Obama’s inner circle have been waiting for the right scenario for years to seize control of national industries which they know will bring our country to its knees, making it easier for them to institute their plan of a statist nation. This crisis has given them all they could hope for.

If the Administration’s plans are allowed to be enacted, we will see gas prices rise to more than double what we are paying now, leaving America’s economy in ruin. They will wrap the issue in catchy phrases like “we have to save the environment”,  giving them the ability to attack anyone who opposes them as not caring about the environment.  This is the same tactic the far left has used for the last 60 years to trick us into thinking they have our best interests at heart. It is up to us as voters to make sure this does not happen. Each of us must continue to sound the alarm about the real agenda behind the fluff.

The first step in stopping the takeover of America is to change the balance of power in Congress during the November elections. The President cannot achieve his goals without a complicit legislative body to pass the laws he needs to expand government control. Some may argue that such a Congress will stop progress which is exactly what we need in these current times. Without quick and decisive action by voters in November, we are unlikely to have another chance to return America to the principles that made us the greatest nation in the world.

It is time for each of us to get involved in the election process by volunteering for the candidates and causes we support. It is time to put down the protest signs and sign up to walk your neighborhoods to speak to everyone we meet about what is at stake. Take the time to educate yourselves on the issues that matter most to you so you are ready to counter the shallow arguments you are likely to face. The stakes of this fight are not Democrat vs. Republican. This fight is about saving the country we love and the liberties that come from being American.

May God bless you and may God bless the United States of America.
