To create the appearance that he is connecting with “real” Nevadans, Harry Reid launched a bus tour through rural Nevada this week. The tour was a closely guarded secret outside of Democrat Party organizations until the morning the tour through Northern Nevada began. The stops were carefully timed to make sure that any protests would be small and unorganized. One small protest was organized at his Reno stop but several union thugs traveling with the Reid tour placed themselves between the protesters and Reid’s supporters and continuously shouted “Harry, Harry, Harry” to drown out the voices of those in opposition.
Reid arrived at a little coffee shop in downtown Carson City about 30 minutes late of schedule. He was greeted by a small group outside that included a little girl holding a sign reading “Nevada loves Harry” in perfect postition for the camera crew following the Senator to film this “touching moment”.
I could not hear what he said but I am sure it had something to do with “Don’t worry about the future, we know what you need and will make all your decisions for you”. Reid has become a champion of exploiting children for his own political gain.
Once inside, there was a coincidentally open chair in the crowded room right in front of an elderly gentleman who had
a few questions for Harry. After thanking Harry for all the great work he is doing, the man wanted to know, “what’s next for this Congress”? In another touching moment of “true concern” recorded by his video team, Reid stated that there were three things left for the current session of Congress to accomplish; Jobs, Immigration and the Environment. He was quick to add that Republicans have not been working with him to achieve his goals. He left out the fact that he was the one who locked Republicans out of the secret meetings that drafted the takeover of healthcare.
He responded to a total of five comments/ questions from the audience. Reid’s quick answers made it obvious that this was not a town hall forum and that the questions had been pre-selected by Reid’s campaign staff.
The first person questioned when the war in Iraq would end. In classic Reid style, he stated that “This was a war of choice, not a war of necessity”. He blamed the Bush administration for using false intelligence as an excuse to overthrow an admittedly bad person in Saddam Hussein. Leaving out the part that he voted for the war, he said he always supported the troops but was against the war. He also neglected to admit that he had gone on the national media circuit to tell our soldiers that the “war was lost” when the successful troop surge began.
Comment number two began with a heartfelt thanks for “giving all Americans health care”. The lady recited that she was fearful that her pre-existing health conditions would preclude her from receiving insurance but that thanks to Reid’s great work, all was well now. In a bit of a slip, Harry’s answer started a little before she had finished her question. He talked about the “hard fight” and how Republicans did all they could to prevent her from receiving the care she needed. He then told the story a young college student from Searchlight who lost his parent’s health insurance when he turned 23, just months before he was diagnosed with cancer. He then added how he arranged for a doctor who was a personal friend to provide the young man’s treatment free of charge.
The next question came from a young woman from Germany who told Reid that she has been in this country illegally for many years and feared she could be deported. She told him that we need immigration reform so she and others like her will be able to stay in America. He began his answer with “I am well aware of this situation. The Rush Limbaugh’s of the world say deport them all. I say we have to put them on a path of legalization”. It struck me as interesting that someone in this country illegally would feel at ease telling this to the Senate Majority Leader of the United States who was surrounded by law enforcement and Secret Service agents.
Reid was then praised for his work in fighting for a high speed rail system between Las Vegas and Southern California. The spontaneity of the question was again suspicious when he responded that “Carol would like to know what we are doing to build a high speed rail between Las Vegas and California”. He went on to say that the project would create thousands upon thousands of jobs, all while reducing carbon emissions. He didn’t mention that several engineers who have reviewed the project say that the project is doomed to fail because high speed trains will not be able to run over the mountain passes between the two locations.
Although I tried to remain objective during the dialog, it was impossible to miss that this was nothing more than a staged campaign tour. The questions did not come from randomly picking people raising their hands. Harry just seemed to “know” who had the important questions to ask. The whole event, in my opinion, was a pathetic example of what is wrong with our political process where a representative of the people is allowed to manipulate the questions so to avoid taking on any controversial or dissenting opinion.
We are fighting hard to see that the “Real Harry Reid” is exposed to the voters of Nevada. He can hide behind his blind supporters all he wants but he cannot hide from the truth that he and the Statist movement he is leading with Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama is destroying the freedoms on which America was founded.
With a corrupt establishment and $25 million dollars to spend, it would be foolish to think there is no chance Harry Reid can win reelection. Help us with a contribution of $10, $25 or more so we can get the message out to the voters that Harry does not represent Nevadans. His bosses are the special interests and big labor unions who keep him sheltered from dealing with the truth.
